The Information
Management Division is primarily an
internal service unit that manages the
acquisition of library materials,
their cataloging and physical
processing. We also manage
iBistro, the Library's online
catalog as well as this website.
Finally, we manage all of the Library's
computing resources including Public
Access Internet, Esource stations,
telephone systems, WiFi and access to
external
subscription databases.

Public Access
Computing
|
|
The library has three
types of computers: Esource
workstations, Public Access
Internet(PAI) stations and PCs for
children's use. Esource stations
are intended for using the
online catalog,
subscription databases and (in some
locations) Microsoft Word, Excel, and
Powerpoint. These Esource stations
do not access the Internet for general
browsing and lookup. Public Access
Internet stations are for accessing the
Internet and we offer 90 minutes per day
sessions at the Main Library and one
hour per day sessions at the Branch
Libraries.
Ab SMPL library or Internet card and PIN is required to use the PAI stations. |

WiFi at the Library
|
|
● |
The Main library and each
branch library is equipped with a
wireless access point that supports both
the 802.11b and 802.11g standards - this
configuration is commonly know as WiFi. |
|
● |
WiFi provides a wireless
connection to the Internet for laptops
equipped with a WiFi network card.
Most laptops sold in the last two years
include this card as a standard feature. |
|
● |
There is no per-use fee
or subscription fee for accessing the
Internet through the Library's WiFi
access points. For more detailed
information, here's our
WiFi brochure

Ethernet/Laptop
Plug-In Access at the Main Library
|
|
● |
If you have a laptop computer with
Ethernet, you may use the Ethernet
ports, which are located under a number
of the study tables, to access the
Internet. |
|
● |
Ethernet cables are required to connect
your computer to an Ethernet port.
Cables can be purchased at most computer
and electronics stores. |
|
● |
Ethernet ports and power sockets
are
located:
First Floor
at the tables below the main staircase.
Second Floor:
at the tables along the windows north of
the Reference Desk (near the study
rooms).
Ethernet ports
in the Study Rooms are
located underneath the
floor
panels.
PLEASE NOTE: Wi-Fi and plug-in Internet
service at the Library is not secure and
is used at the individual's own risk.
Even if firewalls are running on
laptops, it is recommended that
sensitive information not be sent
through this network. |
