Santa Monica Rent Control 

Contains the Santa Monica Rent Control Board Agenda and Maximum Allowable Rents Database.

UCLA Community Housing Office 

The Publications/References page has excellent information on area rental rates, a neighborhood map and profiles.  The general public can search for roommates and short-term sublets listings in their on-line listings database

RENTNET  

Search for available rentals by city, zip code, or college and specify a particular type of housing such as senior living or roommates.  Also offers links to services needed by renters, such as insurance, movers, etc.

Housing Violations Search 

Health inspection results for apartment buildings and condominiums with 5 units or more within Los Angeles County from the LA County Department of Health Services (DHS).  Find specific inspection records and violations from the past 2 years.  Takes about 3-weeks to post new inspection data.

 
Affordable Housing
City of Santa Monica Housing Division 

Find information on affordable rental housing in Santa Monica, including Section 8 rental assistance.

HUD: Subsidized Apartment Search 

Searchable database of subsidized housing units, or Section 8 housing.  Search by location (state, county, city), housing type, and number of bedrooms.  From the U.S. Dept. of Housing and Urban Development (HUD).

 
Moving
California Moving & Storage Association (CMSA) 

Contains moving tips, how to avoid "bandit movers", and a glossary of terms.  Use their Find a Mover feature to search their member database for a qualified mover.  The CMSA is a non-profit trade association representing over 450 licensed and insured movers in California.

Monster Moving 

Locate a mover, find out how to ship your car to another state, and compare rates at Mover Quotes.

USPS: MoversGuide 

Complete guide to moving from the U.S. Postal Service.  Includes online change of address form and links to services that can connect your utilities, move your magazines, and update your email address.   The Helpful Tips section has helpful moving checklists and timelines.
