Rand California Statistics
Library online database.   100 statistical databases, ranging from employment to social security payments to SAT scores.  This database is available only in the Library.
Opposing Viewpoints
Library online database.  As the name implies, this database offers arguments on both sides of current hot issues from abortion to crime to marijuana to war crimes.  A Statistics tab in each article provides access to statistics to support the pros and cons of each side of the issue.  A great place to get statistics for reports.
U.S. Bureau of the Census
All aspects of the 2000 census and more. American Factfinder
Part of the U.S. Census site, the Factfinder provides current information plus community profile fact sheets.

Earth Resource Systems
A selection of demographics for cities throughout the U.S.  Quick and easy to use.
 

County and City Data Books
Online versions of the 1988, 1994, and 2000 Data Books with demographic statistics.
Sourcebook of Criminal Justice Statistics
2002 data on federal, state, and local crime.
Uniform Crime Reports
Data on arrests, offenses, and crimes reported for adults and juveniles.  Listed by U.S. totals or by state.
Bureau of Labor Statistics
CPI, PPI, labor and unemployment and more.  Links to state and local regional data.
Historical United States Census Data
Data includes the population and economy of U.S. states and counties from 1790 to 1960.  No information on individuals.
Statistical Abstract of the U.S.
Statistics on social and economic conditions in the United States from 1878 to 2003.  Early editions are fascinating but often difficult to read.
Global Statistics
Data on population and economic factors
for regions, countries, provinces and cities. Has updates for 2004.
 
Demographic Data by Zip Code
EasiDemographics sells complete statistical reports but reports based on 2000 census data are free if you register.  Despite the heavy advertising, a very useful site for zip code demographics.
California Statistical Abstract
Data for 2002 and dating back to 1940 for some topics.  Covers many subjects but online data is not available for some.
Counting California
A project of the California Digital Library.  Information, facts, and data about the state.
Neighborhood Knowledge for California
Excellent site by UCLA.  Select quick facts about your city or build a thematic map.  Plenty of online help provided.
California Vital Statistics
From the Department of Health Services, vital statistics and much more.
The Library Reference Collection contains many statistical resources.  In the Library online catalog, iBistro, use the Subject search " United States Statistics" to retrieve print resources such as:  County and City Extra : Annual Metro, City and County Data Book; State Rankings; Historical Statistics of the United States; or Datapedia of the United States, 1790-2000 : America Year by Year.

For state and local statistics search iBistro using the Subject search " California Statistics" to locate resources like California, Cities, Towns & Counties.

Other useful Subject searches for statistics include:  " Santa Monica Census," " United States Population Statistics," " Zip Codes and Statistics," and " Consumer Behavior Statistics."  Ask the librarian for assistance in locating exactly the statistics you need.
