Health & Wellness Resource Center
Online Library database.  Features an Alternative Health Encyclopedia with conditions listed alphabetically with causes, symptoms, and alternative medical treatments.  You can also use the general keyword search to retrieve numerous articles on alternative health and treatment methods.
Health World Alternative Medicine Center 
The Alternative Medicine Center offers natural choices for self-managed care.  Find alternative systems and alternative therapies, recommendations for healthy diet, and alternative medical specialists.


 
 UCLA Collaborative Centers for Integrative Medicine
UCLA's program advocates the practice, teaching, and science of MindBody, Complementary, and Alternative Medicine.  The Research Section has useful articles on studies and announcements of proposed studies with invitations for public participation.  The "Integrative Medicine Bulletin" is available online and a Resources section provides both Website links and articles of interest.

 
 
HerbMed
This is an electronic herbal database with hyperlinked access to the scientific data underlying the use of herbs for health. It tries to present impartial, evidence-based information for professionals, researchers, and general public.  There is an enormous amount of information here provided by the nonprofit Alternative Medicine Foundation.


 
National Center for Complementary and Alternative Medicine
Part of the National Institutes of Health, the site provides health information, research and clinical trial data, and current news.  Alerts and advisories are included in the health information section.


 
Preventive Medicine Center
A non-profit organization that provides resources and information on conventional, alternative, and complementary medicines, advice on whole foods/high fiber approaches to healthful nutrition including macrobiotics, cooking classes, and lectures.  Includes a useful resource list of books, Websites, and educational organizations.
 


 
RxList Alternatives
This is the alternative medicine section of the prescription RxList.  Search by name of medicine or remedy or by broad category.  Describes what the herb or medicine does, how to take or prepare it, and possible contraindications or side effects.


 
Feingold Association  Diet Therapy Program for Attention & Behavioral Disorders
Nonprofit organization of families, educators and health professionals that stresses the effects of prepared food products on your behavior, health, and ability to learn.  Offers a selection of scientific studies supporting the use of diet therapy.  Search by keyword or topic.
University of Washington Medicinal Herb Garden
Wonderful resource for herbalists, medics, botanists, and general public.  The site is not a source of medical advice or a guide to self-medication but does describe the herbs and what they are often used for.  It also provides bibliographic references for further research on each herb.  Well worth a visit and the information is authoritative.

 
 
WholeHealthMD
The Website aims to combine the resources of scientific health research and the clinical expertise of integrative health care specialists to help the consumer attain health, wellness, and longevity. A team of leading consumer health writers and board-certified physicians provides the site with a practical information and self-help resources.   The site is part of the American Wholehealth Network a company that provides managed care organizations alternative health solutions.
 


 
Hospital & Health System Programs
The University of Pittsburgh Hospital extensive list of alternative medicine resources.  The University also has a well-developed and extensive Alternative Medicine Web page.

 
 
Center for Mind-Body Medicine
The Center for Mind-Body Medicine is a non-profit educational organization and the  Website focuses on the interactions between mind and body and the powerful ways in which emotional, mental, social and spiritual factors can directly affect health.
For books on alternative and complementary medicine, check the Library online catalog, iBistro.  Some suggested Subject searches include:  " Alternative Medicine," " Holistic Medicine," " Herbs Therapeutic Use," " Naturopathy," and " Vitamins."  You may also use the Subject search for particular types of healing such as " Acupuncture" or " Acupressure."
