The publishers of the Physicians Desk Reference (PDR) provides drug
information written in lay terms and is based on the FDA-approved drug
information found in the PDR. It gives consumers plain-English explanations
for the safe and effective use of prescription and nonprescription drugs,
herbal medicines, and nutritional supplements. |

approved and tentatively approved prescription, over-the-counter, and
discontinued drugs. Search by drug name or browse alphabetically.
Information on dosage form, strength, and manufacturer. Provides
generic name and active ingredient(s).

MedlinePlus Drug Information Information on thousands of
prescription and over-the-counter medications is provided through the
American Society of Health-System Pharmacists and the United States
Pharmacopeia (USP). Search alphabetically by drug name or generic
name. Complete information including side effects and risks. |
RXList RXList is a commercial
site with an online pharmacy but its information is excellent. Gives
the brand, generic, and category, and most common side effects. Much
of the information is available Spanish. Also has information on some
major Western herbs, Chinese herbal remedies, and homeopathics.

Health & Human Services Alcohol and Drug Information
Hundreds of fact sheets and pamphlets about specific drugs. Search by
drug name or category. Read publications online or order them.
The site includes research briefs and statistics. |

Botanical Council Common Herbs An online pamphlet introduction
to some of the more well-known benefits of some common herbs and plant
products. Arranged alphabetically by herb with a short alphabetical
list of conditions at the end. The
Herb
Reference Guide on the same site is also useful. |
HerbMed Herbal database with
hyperlinked access to the scientific data on the use of herbs for health.
Produced by the nonprofit Alternative Medicine Foundation, it is for
professionals, researchers, and general public. Amount of information
is sometimes overwhelming and some is available only through
subscription. |

Office of Generic Drugs The Food & Drug Administration sees that a
generic drug productmeets FDA standards foridentity, strength, quality,
purity and potency. The site provides general information on generic
drugs and the Electronic
Orange Book, where you can find out if there is a generic equivalent for
a brand name drug. |
