Consumer Health Complete
Library online database.  Consumer Health Complete provides indexing and full text of medical and health-related  encyclopedias and reference books.  
Medline Health Information Plus Organized in eight topical sections: Disease, Injury, Nutrition, Poison, Special, Surgery, Symptoms, and Tests. Users can browse the encyclopedia entries alphabetically within each of the eight areas. Overall, an excellent resource for both health professionals and consumers.
Merck Manual Online
The well-known and highly reputable text used by medical professionals worldwide is online free of charge. Search by topic, section, or keyword.
Merck Manual Home Edition
This version of the Merck Manual was created specifically for the lay user and is available online free of charge.

Library online database.  Provides indexing and full text of medical and health-related journals, reference books, and pamphlets. Information is current and comprehensive and the full text feature allows users access to hard-to-find medical journals and pamphlets.  Also provides information on alternative health topics.
HealthFinder
Developed by the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services, the site provides A to Z listings of topics on prevention & wellness, diseases & conditions, and alternative medicine — plus medical dictionaries, an encyclopedia, journals, and more.  Users may also sign up to receive emailed health information, news, and tips.
Medscape
Browse 29 medical specialty areas or search specific topics through Medscape and Medline.  Access to articles on latest medical research or Medline.  Features current medical news and excerpts from medical texts.  Register to receive emailed health news.  Much of the information is professional level.
Family Doctor
Sponsored by the American Academy of Family Physicians, the site offers information on a variety of health topics plus separate areas for drug information, self-care, healthy living, and children. Includes a physician locator to find a family doctor by state and city. Easy to browse, easy to read information. The site has a Spanish language version.

The respected publisher of the Merck Manual offers this Website with a Resource Library of online reference works; centers for men, women, children, and seniors; "Condition Briefs" alphabetically by condition, and more.  Excellent information.

Aetna HealthcareTM joins Harvard Medical School and University of Pennsylvania to provide medical and dental health resources, drug indexes, interactive tools, and healthy lifestyle information.  URAC accredited health Website.
Go Ask Alice!
Columbia University Health Services provides this question and answer site for information on a variety of health-related topics.  Search by topic or browse the archives by keyword.  Frank and authoritative, it answers questions people are often embarrassed to ask themselves.
MedPage Today
University of Pennsylvania clearinghouse of new discoveries and developments in medicine.  Users can view by topic or search the news database by keyword.
PubMed Central
 PubMed Central is a free, digital archive of life sciences journal literature at the U.S. National Institutes of Health (NIH).   Search by subject, keyword, author for full text articles or citations to articles.
Quackwatch
Quackwatch is a nonprofit corporation whose purpose is to combat health-related frauds, myths, fads, and fallacies.  It was founded by Stephen Barrett MD.  His stated aim is to "to promote accurate health information and increase consumer protection in the marketplace." 
WebMD
WebMD provides health information, tools for managing health, and support to those who seek information.  Includes access to news articles and features, and decision-support services that help consumers make better informed decisions about treatment options, health risks and healthcare providers.  Free registration required to take advantage of all this site's features.
Medem Medical Library
iHealth, in cooperation with the American Medical Association and other professional associations, provides professionally written articles in the broad topic categories Life Stages; Diseases & Conditions; Therapies & Health Strategies; and Health & Society.
JAMA Patient Page
The respected Journal of the American Medical Association provides over 390 entrieson their Patient Page.  Topics include  Lyme disease, dementia, lymphoma, and dozens of other conditions, medical procedures, and practices. Succinct and accessible summaries for each entry, along with illustrations, graphs, and diagrams that help explain each topic.  Many pages are also available in Spanish.
 
 
The Library offers a wide variety of materials on health topics.  Search the Library online catalog, iBistro, for general reference sources using Subject searches like " Health Encyclopedias," " Medicine Popular Encyclopedias," " Symptoms, Handbooks, Manuals,etc." or " Alternative Medicine Encyclopedias."  Use the Subject search " Medicine Popular" to retrieve a larger selection of both reference and circulating materials.

 The Library Reference Collection also has standard medical reference books like The Merck Manual of Diagnosis and Therapy, Dorland's Illustrated Medical Dictionary, Gray's Anatomy, Conn's Current Therapy, Cecil Textbook of Medicine, and Current Medical Diagnosis and Treatment.
