City of Santa Monica Human Services Department
Helps provide services to the community from infancy through seniors.  Publishes Santa Monica/Westside Guide to Health Care online. Also lists services offered by local hospitals and health card providers.
HelpGuide
This site is a project of the Santa Monica Rotary Club and the Center for Healthy Aging.  Information on many health topics including child abuse, mental disorders, Alzheimer's disease, sleep, and stress.  Excellent information resource.
Los Angeles County Department of Health Services
Information on programs, hospitals and clinics, and public health.  Provides alerts and fact sheets on current problems such as West Nile Virus or SARS.  DHS Health Information page on various health topics, medical tests, and drugs.

California Health Resources and Services

California Department of Managed Care
HMO Report Card, HMO law, plans and providers, common questions, how to get help with your HMO, and library.. Includes a downloadable HMO Guide.
California Healthy Families
This is the State low-cost insurance that provides health, dental, and vision care for children and teens.  Complete information available on the site including how to apply for the program.
Medi-Cal
Information publications, regulations and forms for enrolling in the Medi-Cal program.  Services include online access to Medi-Cal rates for various procedures.
California Healthcare Foundation
Information on every healthcare topic of interest:  medicare, hospitals, prescription drugs, health privacy, long term care, and much more.
California Consumer Health Care Council
This nonprofit group aims to assist consumers who have problems with HMOs, insurers, or other health care plans.
HMO Report Card
California Office of the Patient Advocate rates HMOs and medical groups on the quality of their care and the services they offer.

National Health Resources and Services

U.S. Department of Health and Human Services
A good introduction to federal government services:  diseases, drugs, disasters and emergencies, aging, families and children, nursing homes, laws, and policies.
National Institutes of Health
A leading research center provides information on health resources, clinical trials, health hotlines, MEDLINEplus, PubMed Central, and drugs.  Also provides direct links to each of the institutes
Medicare
Everything you need to know about Medicare:  premium rates, drug discounts, plan choices, billing, long term care, and more.  Information available in English, Spanish, and Chinese.  Screen reader version also available.
Health.gov
This site pulls together information from multi-agency health activities of the Health and Human Services Department.  General information, health news, links to federal agencies.
Centers for Disease Control
From hantavirus to hurricane recovery the CDC investigates health problems, conducts research, and advocates policies for disease control.
National Mental Health Information Center
Provides information to users of mental health services.  Responds quickly to information requests via toll free number 800-789-2647 or email on the Website.
