access to Oxford University Press reference works on a number of subjects,
including literature. |
American Memory
is
a digital record of American history and creativity. It features
materials, from the collections of the Library of Congress and other
institutions, that chronicle historical events, people, places, and ideas
that continue to shape America. |

Ancient World Web is a personal Web site, maintained by historian Julia
Hayden. It provides a comprehensive compilation of to Web sites pertaining
to the ancient world. |
Goettingen University's
History Guide
provides access to scholarly Web sites and digital texts on history of
all eras and regions of the world. Though this is an international site, much of
the content is available in English. |

The Los Angeles Family History Center
was established in 1964 to service the
needs of the citizens of Los Angeles County as well as the surrounding
county areas. This is the largest family history center satellite of the
Salt Lake Family History Library. |

In the Reference Collection of the Main

| The Santa Monica History Collection
consists of a print collection of books
on the history of the Santa Monica Bay
area and the greater Los Angeles area;
microfilm and
indexing of the Evening Outlook,
Our Times (Los Angeles Times
Westside section), Santa Monica
Mirror; and the
Santa Monica Image Archives.
The Collection includes a broken file of
Santa Monica city directories from 1895
though 1961 and Santa Monica High School
yearbook, Nautilus, from 1907 to
the present.
Library staff will search for
obituaries in the local newspaper, the
Evening Outlook, if a death date
is provided. Because the
obituaries are not indexed so the exact
date of death is required. Sorry,
staff time is limited so only the local
newspaper microfilm can be searched for
obituaries.
During the construction of the new
Main Library much of the Santa Monica
History Collection is in storage.

does not include census microfilm or
vital records. For vital records
of people who were born or died in Los
Angeles County, go to the
Los Angeles County Registrar-Recorder
Website. The reference collection
